Our Mission
The Chicago Independent Media Alliance is a project of the Reader Institute for Community Journalism. It is a partnership of independent, local, and community-driven media entities coming together in the spirit of collaboration, especially in creating new revenue streams and heightening independent media’s visibility.
Launched in the summer of 2019, CIMA is a project of the Reader Institute for Community Journalism Since its inception, CIMA has brought in nearly $484,695 into Chicago’s local and independent news ecosystem.

– Reach a combined audience of 4.5 million
– Represent all of the city’s 50 wards and many near suburbs
– Produce content in 6 languages

CIMA hosts annual joint fundraisers with the involvement of over 40 media entities. Donors have the option to donate to one outlet, multiple, or split their donation evenly amongst all. Donations are taken year round.
